I was on her lap and she told me a story of a girl who went to a party against the bidding of her mom and for some strange reason, she drove toward a cliffside and found herself hurtling to the rocks below. And the mom came with the police and was crying and embracing her child's bloody corpse which had its skull cracked in 4 places. Or something like that. Then my mom asked, "When you grow older, are you still going to hug me?"

Right, however out of place the question was, I never realized it til now. I answered "Of course", or something and hugged her then and there. I was a kid, yeah, and it was leagues easier to do that then.

My mind returned to the homily and I looked at mom. I guess with all the rebelling I've been doing lately I haven't had time to uphold the promise I made that day. Once in a while she'd put her arm around my shoulder in Robinson's or wherever, but I doubt I'd ever returned the gesture.
